WA Premier Cricket 2019-20 Season Preview - Part 4
Date of Event Western Australian Cricket Association: Fri Sep 27, 2019 12:00PM

We take a look at how each First Grade Men's club is shaping up ahead of the 2019-20 Alcohol. Think Again Premier Cricket season.

Last Season: 16th

Coach: Mike Foskett

Most Runs: Keaton Critchell (342 Runs at 28.50)

Most Wickets: Keaton Critchell (21 Wickets at 22.48)

Player to Watch: Tom Beaton

Midland-Guildford will be hoping for a move up the ladder in the 2019-20 Alcohol. Think Again Premier Cricket Season with the acquisition of a number of players in the pre-season. Scott Borthwick is rumoured to return after another strong season for Surrey, while James Godfrey has moved across from Willetton in search for a consistent top-order batting position. However, one of last season's recruits, Tom Beaton, will be huge for Midland-Guildford this season as he settles into his first full season in the black and white. A climb off the bottom of the ladder surely seems inevitable for the team out at Lilac Hill.

Last Season: Elimination Finalists

Coach: Jason Thompson

Most Runs: Jacob Snadden (480 Runs at 34.29)

Most Wickets: Josh Nicholas (40 Wickets at 15.83)

Player to Watch: Sam Fanning

For the past five seasons Perth Cricket Club have been amongst the WA Premier Cricket Competition without reaching the First Grade Grand Final. They will be hoping that this changes with the recruit of young gun and Western Australian Rookie Sam Fanning. Fanning should hopefully solidify the Demons batting line-up with Snadden, Scollay and Mast despite the loss of Luke Jury to retirement. On the bowling front, Josh Nicholas and Liam Guthrie will again combine to create a fast and formidable bowling partnership with the new rock.

Last Season: Runners Up

Coach: Kris Kennedy

Most Runs: James Bracey (656 Runs at 43.73)

Most Wickets: Craig Simmons (53 Wickets at 14.30)

Player to Watch: Damien Burrage

After finishing as minor Premiers in season 2018-19 and Runners Up to competition powerhouse Claremont-Nedlands in the Grand Final, the Mariners will be looking to go one better in 2019-20. Established Coach Kris Kennedy is at the helm again and will look to finetune his squad for another crack at the title. Young gun Damien Burrage looks primed to step up this season for the Mariners, however the rumoured loss of star batsman Dane Ugle could rock the Mariners top order. It may be too early to tell if last season’s overseas import James Bracey returns as well, given his exploits for Gloucestershire in the 2019 County Championship

Last Season: 9th

Coach: Will Stibbs

Most Runs: Chris Sabburg (603 Runs at 50.25)

Most Wickets: Corey Rocchiccioli (28 Wickets at 16.29)

Player to Watch: Corey Rocchiccioli

The Uni Boys has a promising start to the 2018-19 Premier Cricket Season before a fade out towards the back end of the season cost them a Finals position. Coach Will Stibbs will be hoping that a strong pre-season will work to rectify that and have the team back in contention for season 2019-20. Young spinner Corey Rocchiccioli had a break-out season last year and will look to continue to take bags of wickets, while the pressure of scoring the bulk of the runs will fall on the shoulders of Chris Sabburg and Viv Paver with the departure of Sean Stuart to South Perth.
