Melville 8/215 def Midland Guildford 101 - Burrendah Reserve
Melville are the 2017-2018 A Grade 50 Over Premiers as they came away victorious against rivals Midland-Guildford at Burrendah Reserve on Sunday. In pristine conditions for cricket last year's premiers Midland - Guildford who we're eyeing off their 3rd consecutive title however Melville had enjoyed a very successful summer in the Female Competitions. In what was sure to be a great game between two of the competitions dominant teams.
Midland Guildford won the toss and elected to bowl first. Melville started strongly with the bat through opening pair Amy Edgar (41) and Rebecca West (23) who built some early momentum for Melville. Fortunately thanks to the bowling of Bhavisha Devchand and Melissa Holmes Midland Guildford hit back as they took wickets in quick succession including the dangerous Mathilda Carmichael (10) cheaply. Melville looked shaky at in the middle order however a contribution through youngster Georgia Platten (30) and Captain Renee Chappell (34) steadied the ship and allowed the tail to wag as Lara Rodin Zimbahl also contributed (20n.o) and Georgia Middleton (17) in the final overs. At the end of Melville's 50 Overs they reached a strong total of 215. Melissa Holmes claimed 2 for 41 from her 10 overs followed by Bhavisha Devchand as she claimed 2 for 47 for Midland-Guildford. Midland-Guildford's start to the run chase was in the worst of ways as Bhavisha Devchand was caught on the fine leg boundary in the first ball of the innings causing immediate pressure on last years champions. Through Captain Chloe Piparo (27) and Katie Shallard (28) Midland Guildford looked to steady the innings. Piparo who in previous years has been almost unbeatable in Grand Finals was again looking dangerous as she reached the boundary 3 times early on. However fortunately for Melville it took something special from Rebecca West who ran Piparo out from Mid On which caused a holt to Midland Guildford momentum. From that crucial dismissal Melville made good on their opportunities to close the game out as Mathilda Carmichael ripped through the middle order claiming 4 wickets for 29 of 10 overs as Midland Guildford we're all out for 101 in the 27th over. Melville we're awarded the Premiership Flag and Mathilda Carmichael was awarded player of the match with her impressive bowling display.

Melville have claimed the B Grade 40 over Premiership for the 2017-18 Female Cricket Season. The Storm overcame Midland Guildford at Burrendah Reserve on Sunday. Winning the toss and electing to bat first Melville opener Jess Row (38) was the top scorer followed by contributions from Lauren Shaw (19) and Gabrielle Simmonds (37). Rhiannon Vinkovich was again in good form with the ball as she claimed 3 wickets for 26. At the close of innings Melville finished on 6/142. Melville's bowling proved much too strong for Midland Guildford as the top order crumbled early. Madeline Gardiner (18) showed some talent lower in the order, however It was Melville day as Charlotte King claimed 3 for 15 and Alana Jones 3 for 21 wrapped up the match for Melville. Jess Row was awarded Player of the Match for her contribution with the bat.
