Female A Grade Review

Melville 5/128 (20.0) def Midland-Guildford 8/122 (20.0)

Winning the toss, Melville had no hesitation in batting first at the iconic WACA Ground. A brisk opening start saw Melville string together some good partnerships as Ashlee King (34) & Lara Maritz (24) kept the Storm rolling. Sheldyn Cooper led from the front with the ball picking up 2/28 but Emily Rixon proved to be the pick of the bowlers, taking 2/21. Chasing a competitive total of 129, the Swans got off to a modest start as regular wickets kept falling. Chloe Ainsworth impressed with 2/18 before Bree Hyde’s spectacular knock of 57 off 40 balls got the game excitingly close. In a thrilling final over finish, Amy Edgar proved her worth, defending 10 runs, inflicting 2 runouts and finishing with superb figures of 2/18 to give Melville a sensational victory.

Subiaco-Floreat 5/123 (20.0) def South Perth 6/112 (20.0)

A Grade saw another close match unfold at Floreat Park on Sunday with the Lions winning the toss and electing to bat first. Millie Monaghan led the way with 49no off 47 and with a combined team effort, they concluded the innings with a strong 123. Tyler Jones, 3/25, and Soniya Yadav, 2/12, led the way with the ball being the only wicket takers for South Perth. Some strong individual performances with the bat were had by South Perth players Emily Hessel (45) and Tyler Jones (34), but it wasn’t enough to get the side over the line falling short by just 11 runs. Subiaco-Floreat’s Millie Monaghan (2/19) and Jessica Emery (2/20) applied the pressure assuring their side claimed the win.
